Lake Bunyonyi

Lake Bunyonyi literally meaning the place of many Small birds, lies in the South- western part of Uganda between the towns of Kisoro and Kabale that are situated closely to the border of Rwanda. This ranks the second deepest lake in Africa whose depth is estimated over 144ft/ 900m deep. It is considered to be the only lake free from bilharzias and totally safe for swimming.

Neighboring The Home of the Gorillas – Bwindi impenetrable national park make it a perfect destination to relax and wind off your safari memories. With calm waters and quietly moving local canoes, the lake boasts of over 29 islands that snake in nature along the 29 islands. These islands are of different shapes and sizes surrounded by a ring of terraced farms. Most common and visited island by dugout canoe or motor boat by the locals are the Punishment and Akampene islands.
